High Specification The Workabout mx was a high performance, yet low cost handheld computer designed for use in all types of environments. With its 16-bit processor and multi-tasking operating system the Workabout mx was able to handle complex processing and programming tasks simultaneously. Supplied with 2 Mbytes of RAM, there was provision for adding two Solid State Disks that can offer an additional 16Mbytes of memory; enough memory for even the most complex applications.
Communication and contact-less printing with a choice of two IrDA ports provide the base and the top of the Workabout MX, IrDA communication with a device such as a belt mounted printer, was simple and without wires.
The upper gate is perfect for file transfer and weight can be used to easily transfer the information to design an IrDA-enabled PC with the right software. Robust and ergonomically designed, the Workabout is designed to keep things simple, light and strong enough to considerable wear and environmental extremities to resist.
With IP54 protection, the WORKABOUT spray and dust in all directions, a one meter drop onto concrete. Visual Basic programming language compatibility is an important feature of the Workabout is the integrated Visual Basic programming language compatible OVAL (Object-based Visual Application Language), which was developed by Psion. The Psion Multiple Docking Station provides a convenient docking facility for the Psion Workabout range of handheld computers, providing two way communications with a host PC and intelligent battery management. The Multiple Docking Station is capable of holding up to four terminals and can be linked via a chaining cable enabling up to sixteen handhelds to share the same PC communication port simultaneously.

The SSD Drive
Fast and efficient data transfer: SSDs can be written to, or read, directly by a desk top computer equipped with a Psion SSD Drive. This consists of a SSD Drive Unit, Psion Serial Interface Card, and PC software utility to drive the card.
Once installed, the SSD Drive can be accessed using the software utility program, which gives access to the SSDs using DOS style commands such as 'COPY'. 'DELETE', and 'FORMAT'. Flash and RAM SSDs can both be accommodated in the Drive and can be used interchangeably. With a data transfer rate of 1.536 Mbps (RAM SSD), software programs and other information can be transferred to and from the handheld and host computer with ease and efficiency.
